California Dreaming

Not all trips can be glamour-packed from start to finish. There still always seems to remain a few necessary evils. Driving through the California desert for two days happened to be one of them. The desert is called Death Valley, making the trip all the more daunting. How could one leave the cheerful city of LA for a dessert? Along the way, to make the best of it, we figured a few glamour shots were in order, in addition, I had the a few locals come out and greet me. It wasn't all bad at all, in fact, I even got to see the worlds tallest thermometer.

Make love to the camera
Bad Water Basin. The lowest point in North America. Exciting.

Not all shots work out
Word of 'tourists' spread quickly, and I happily made some friends (or fans?)
Visiting old mining towns- now ghost towns
Making good use of old mining towns. This isn't a set, it's crazy!
Not bragging or anything... but I totally climbed a hill. In heels.

Actually a highlight of the road trip. Amargosa Opera House. Really interesting story behind it!

I just want to be as free as my hair

Next Stop... VEGAS!

My Vegan Experience

Trying new things is always good, and my latest venture is what I hope will be my new monthly tradition, Vegan Day! It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Here is a list of what I ate, and the recipes are below.

To start the day I had green tea, vegan banana muffin, and an apple, keeping things nice and light. Throughout the day I snacked on carrots and raisins. Since everything I ate was mostly fruit and vegetables it was like a guilt-free hall pass to eat all day! For lunch I made a noodle soup, sort of a chicken noodle soup that was greatly modified. Moving on to dinner I made a stir-fry, served over rice, and to drink I mixed mango juice with carbonated water to recreate an organic soda. Then as the day came to a close, sugared strawberries

The recipes...

My tea bag came with a nice piece of advice to start the day right.

[Banana Bread]

3 very ripe Bananas
1/4 cup of Vegetable Oil
1/2 cup of Sugar
1/2 cup of Brown Sugar
1 cup of flour
1 cup of whole wheat flour
1 tsp of salt
1 tsp of baking soda
1 tbsp of cinnamon
1/2 tbsp of ginger

*preheat oven to 360 degrees. In one bowl mix the sugars and oil. In a second bowl mash the bananas. I used a whisk for all mashing and mixing. Mix the sugars in with the bananas. In yet another bowl mix all the dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda, ginger) and pour it into the wet mixture (bananas and sugar). Mix well. Spray cooking pan, or prepare muffin cups. Bake for 25 minutes. Makes 12 muffins. Enjoy alone, or with whatever tasty sides you'd like!

[Sparkling Mango Juice]

1 cup mango juice (can be replaced with any fruit juice
1/4 cup of carbonated water

*put the liquids together, give them a little swirl, and your golden. Enjoy!

[Pasta Soup]

Pasta (make sure it doesn't contain egg or dairy)
Peas
Carrots
Vegetable broth
Pinch of Salt
Pinch of Pepper
* all ingredients can be adjusted for personal preference. Boil pasta, throw in the peas and carrots half way through the pasta boiling. Drain. Pour vegetable broth into the pot, toss in a dash of salt, and a dash of pepper. Stir it around, and have a lovely meal!

[Stir-Fry]

Rice
Bean sprouts
1/4 of Soy sauce
1/4 of Water
1 tbsp vegetable oil
Ginger minced or a powder (one slice one tbsp)
Vegetables (your choice, such as peppers, onions, broccoli, beans, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, chestnuts)

*heal oil in frying pan, toss in garlic and ginger over low heat. Turn up the heat half way, add water, soy sauce, and vegetables. Stir every minute, or so for 5-7 minutes. Serve over rice (make that simply by boiling).

[Sugared Strawberries]

* chop strawberries into your desired shape. Pour a few tablespoons of lemon juice over them, and a teaspoon of sugar, mix around, let sit for a few minutes, pour into an elegant bowl, now enjoy!
